Passivhaus Residential Project

Honours solo project.

The main objective of this project was to design a new £0.5M Luxury Sustainable Passivhaus in the area of Donavourd just outside Pitlochry and a short walk from the Edradour Distillery.

This new property is being designed as a retirement home for Mr and Mrs Sprott. Due to the building being designed as a retirement house the building has been designed as a single story house with the ability to expand. The house can expand both upwards into the attic space within the middle section of the house and out to the right hand side and rear. The client wanted a house that incorporated traditional design with modern aspects.

The plot features a pond to the rear of the site which the client wanted to utilise any views towards it as much as possible. To give the property the best views of the garden area large full height gable windows are located within the living area and the master suite. Not only do these windows provide a nice view of the garden they also help to maximise light into the building and bring the outside in. The hallway features floor to ceiling glass which acts as an enclosed walkway.

The house uses many different renewable sources from biomass boiler, water source heat pump, to solar pv. With under floor heating to help heat the house during colder periods.
